STORY: BEHIND ANNA WINTOUR'S FIRST VOGUE US COVER

Because this year the fashion magazine Vogue celebrates 120th anniversary, I decided to create an article about one of the many important milestones accompanying this magazine: the year when Anna Wintour joined the Editor-in-Chief and created an iconic and completely unconventional cover of Vogue magazine .

It was November 1988, and thirty-seven year old Anna Wintour, was appointed Editor-in-Chief of the US Vogue. Annina's vision was simple: give US Vogue freshness and bring new and original ideas, which eventually succeeded. For nearly thirty years, Anna and her team have been providing us with a variety of tips, advice and news from the world of fashion and beauty - every month, but it never happened that issue  has be boring or monotone.

Michaela Bercu and her coverstory in Vogue, November 1988

Grace Mirabella, Editor-in-Chief of the American Vogue between 1971-1988, and Anne's predecessor, focused primarily about lifestyle as a whole and less about fashion, which significantly damaged the magazine. In addition, investors and marketing consultants were worried about the emerging US Elle, which came into the market and sold very well. After extensive staff changes, Mirabella changed the style of envelopes; Favored sharp shots of well-known models in studies. This is one of many things Anna Wintour has changed. Her envelopes showed more body, less known models, and the pictures were photographed outdoors in real terrain, as did her predecessor Diana Vreeland years ago. She also combined cheaper with high fashion clothes, which was unprecedented.

legendary Anna Wintour

It was her first envelope that perfectly combined all the innovatory pieces she had decided to change for Vogue. On the cover she chose the 19 year-old Israeli model Michaela Bercu, who was photographed by the acclaimed photographer Peter Lindberg. She wore a satin caftan with cross-shaped from Christiana Lacroix's haute couture collection and jeans from Guess. Originally, she was supposed to take a set of jackets and skirts, but Michaela Bercu was in front of a holiday in Israel and gained a few pounds, so her skirt was tight at the waist. One is about Anna certain; she was able to lift Vogue to a whole new level and at the same time gave her style, flamboyance and uniqueness.
